This blog is a bit of a mess right now. I'm working on my own theme live, which means it's probably going to look like someone's half eaten lunch for a little while.
See how Gregory Crewdson creates his imagery.
(via strobist, a blog I do not normally read but somehow got to. There is also a second video in that post.)
It’s simple, really. People look foolish when posing for a picture. So tell your loved ones you would like to take their photo… then secretly videotape them the whole time.

Everyone wants justification for all the shit they put up with on a daily basis. We go through jobs, relationships, exercise, watch TV and sleep. We create, destroy, define and distribute pieces of our lives. I say “we” because it’s difficult not to believe you’re fighting through your hard times alone.
I think the problem is that we are so limited in the ways we connect with other people. An innate trait is to avoid feeling alone, but there are only so many ways to share an experience and they’re incredibly lacking.
Building on the quality of communication is something I believe we’ll be struggling with for a long time. Technology has made sharing ideas faster, but save for what I see existing in a few elite inner circles, is it any better? Sure, it’s possible to record audio and video of an event, but simply recording what the senses experience lacks the emotion and personal context that makes a memory.
Our memories are what we use to define how we react with the world and they’re definitely not presented in a linear fashion. We need to sort through the mess and apply focus to what want to matter in our lives. Through this, justification will come, but not when you need it, want it, or expect it.
justwatchthesky is a new tumblelog from The Big Noob’s Ryan Sims that simply, and to great effect, highlights a single lyric from a song:
The scope is narrow: An exercise in documenting words in the music I listen to with color and type. The constraints are simple: (1) Only use Georgia (serif) or Helvetica (sans) and (2) try to post as often as possible.
If you can force yourself to stop ogling the typography, you might even notice that you can play the songs from which each lyric is taken. (via simplebits)

The reason why I say “Apple products” is I always say: What’s the point of having an Apple if people can’t see that you have an Apple? But the people really like to hold up the Apple corporation as being this perfect, fantastic company – in spite of the fact that they make all of their products in China, just like Wal-Mart does. They are a publicly traded company, you know? They’re run by a bottom line. That’s why – it’s the most pretentious thing in the world when you get one of their products and it says “Designed in California” – and then, underneath, “Made in China.” [Actually, “Designed by Apple in California” and “Assembled in China.”]
And it’s amazing that people just want to completely ignore this contradiction – that, you know, they’re contributing – I mean, Apple’s products create huge environmental waste and trouble, you know, for the nation of China, and people prefer to ignore it because Apple has good industrial design. And the same thing happens with Target.
